COVID-19: Changes to Task Force Pilot Programme
Coronavirus is set to have a very significant impact on our town centres. As the Task Force, we are developing support programmes for those involved in them and concerned with them, working with our partners to understand the challenge and potential responses. We are also making changes to our planned delivery programme.
High Streets Task Force deploys experts to help unlock potential of high streets
The High Streets Task Force will meet place leaders in 14 locations throughout March to advise on local plans to revitalise town and city centres across England. Part of the Task Force pilot, the visits start in Accrington (Lancashire) and Thornton Heath (London) on March 6th and end in Withington (Manchester) on March 31st.
Place leaders gather for Task Force pilot day
Local place leadership, collaboration and the use of data were on the agenda as the High Streets Task Force met with representatives from 14 pilot locations at the Manchester Metropolitan University on 13th February.
High Streets Task Force starts testing and development
Work begins in January with a number of local authorities around England to pilot products and services that support their town centre regeneration efforts. Following the pilot, this support will be offered nationally by the High Streets Task Force from July.
Search begins for High Streets Task Force Chair
The High Streets Task Force, commissioned by the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government and part of the Government's Plan for the High Street, supports local leaders to revitalise high streets and town centres. The Task Force is now looking to appoint a Chair for the Task Force Board, to take up post in Spring 2020.

The problems facing town centres and high streets are diverse and complex. Every place faces a different mix of issues but, fundamentally, high streets and town centres have the same purpose - to meet the needs of their catchment communities.
